Overview

The tour is guided not only by a professional, certified tour guide & archaeologist - it's guided by a local who was born & raised in the city. I have lived here all my life, and in my tours I share my own personal life & experiences here in the city. I walk you through the narrow alleys used by locals, showing you the city inside & out, with all of its beauty & complexity! If time permits, we might just be meeting and talking to other locals as well!

What To Expect

Akko Old Town
In the old (Ottoman) city, we'll be seeing the city's gate, fortifications, Bustan al-Pasha, some of the markets, residential neighborhoods & one of the recently renovated hotels of the city! We'll also be seeing, from the outside, the city's Ottoman fortress (aka "The Underground Prisoners Museum"), Al-Jazzar Mosque and Zawiyat al-Shaziliyya!

Here we discuss the history, culture & heritage of the city. We also cover everyday life, coexistence (and its complexities), touristic development (and its complexities), food, conservation and more!

Knights' Halls
Here we'll be seeing a Crusader, medieval fortress, called The Knights' Halls (aka "The Underground City" & "Hospitaller Fortress"), which is all underground. This is the biggest site in the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, packed with amazing stories and beautiful, massive architecture! Here we discuss Akko a the capital city of the 2nd Kingdom of Jerusalem, crafts, industry, daily life & more!

Templars Tunnel
The tunnel is a relatively recent discovery in the city, somewhat of a mystery, crossing the city from east to west below the houses & streets! This one, just like the Knights' Halls, is generally dated to the Crusader period. Here we'll be walking through a vaulted tunnel, on a bridge, with water below us, and see what this tunnel might have been used for!

You’ll be happy if you choose Andrew

Andrew is one of the hardest working tour guides I’ve had. His passion for Akko is infectious. He’s obviously passionate about his subject and knowledgeable about a broad range of information. At the end of the tour you feel you’ve made a friend. The fact that he’s a local with native Arabic makes you feel that you’re being toured around someone’s home. All in all and excellent experience.
Amazing Tour

The walking tour with Andrew was an excellent way to spend a day. There were two of us visiting, the tour lasted almost five hours, and we found him to be friendly, personable, knowledgeable and in general a joy to be around. His English was flawless and after our time together we knew a lot more about and had a greater appreciation for Akko. Andrew is highly recommended.
Superior tour guide

Andrew was as knowledgeable, engaging and fantastic as we could have hoped for in a guide. We’re a family of 5 with children aged 9, 12, 14. Having landed the day before, completely jet-lagged, Andrew kept our attention the whole morning. His deep knowledge of archeology and both ancient and recent history of Akko really made this tour stand out.

I highly recommend this tour with Andrew. As a trained archeologist, he was very passionate about the importance of Akko and really made it come alive for us. Be prepared to walk and talk for 4+ hours.
Amazing time learning about Akko from Andrew! Answered all questions comprehensively & passionately. Highly recommended!

Andrew, an archaeologist who has done excavations in Israel, shared historical and personal accounts of Akko - from Canaanite, Greek, Byzantine, Mamluk, Ottoman, English and Israeli history, to stories from the lives of his grandparents, parents and himself - anyone with a love for history will love his tour of Akko's old city.
